The Y1Rs Colnago is the most aerodynamic bike ever designed by the Italian brand. Developed in a wind tunnel and tested under WorldTour conditions, it requires 20 watts less than the V4Rs to maintain 50 km/h – a decisive advantage in sprints, breakaways and windy stages. Its 19 per cent reduced frontal area, the CC.Y1 handlebars with WYND gull-wing technology and the curved down tube minimise air resistance, leaving only speed in its wake. Stiffness has been increased by 3.5 per cent for immediate power transfer during the most intense efforts, whilst the Defy Y-shaped seatpost junction absorbs vibrations to maintain comfort over long distances. Every detail has been designed to save watts, from the bespoke bottle cages to the aerodynamic seatpost, with a design process involving CFD simulation, 3D prototyping and wind tunnel testing before each model goes into production.
