Garmin Varia RTL 515 radar light - Rear light

The Varia RTL 515 rear light from Garmin is both a rear light (60 lumens in flashing mode) and a warning light. This Varia 515 Garmin will alert you when a vehicle is approaching from up to 140 metres away. It can also distinguish between different speeds and recognise whether a vehicle is travelling fast or not. As a result, you’ll receive a different signal (orange or red). You can view the information on a compatible Garmin cycle computer, such as the 530, 830, 1030, 1040 or Explore 2, as well as on certain Wahoo Fitness models.

A dedicated app is also planned. This is a step towards improving safety for users who do not (yet) have a Garmin cycle computer. You can download the Varia Mobile App ANT+ and pair it with the Varia 515. You’ll be alerted to the approach of a vehicle by your phone vibrating. It’s all the more fun as we also use our phone as a cycle GPS.

The Garmin Varia RTL 515 attaches behind the saddle. It is therefore both discreet and incredibly effective. Its battery life in daylight is 16 hours in flashing mode. At night, this drops to around 8 hours. The brightness can vary from 60 to 25 lumens with a beam angle of 220°. It has an IPX7 water resistance rating and weighs 71 grams.
