Scott Scale 600 children’s mountain bike Shimano, Acera 8-speed, earth green

Q: How much does the Scott Scale 600 bike weigh, and why is this important?

The Scale 600 Scott weighs 10.5 kg (23.15 lbs). Keeping the weight down is particularly important on a children’s bike: the lighter the bike, the easier it is for a young cyclist who is still learning to handle, carry and control it. Scott also highlights the lightweight, easy-to-handle frame on this model. This modest weight ensures the Scale 600 remains accessible to both beginners and more experienced young riders looking to improve their skills across a variety of terrains.

Q: What type of brakes does the Scale 600 Scott have?

The Scale 600 Scott is fitted with hydraulic disc brakes. This braking system allows the bike to be stopped safely, an essential feature on a mountain bike designed for children riding on varied terrain, which can sometimes be uneven or wet. Hydraulic disc brakes provide more consistent and progressive braking power than conventional rim brakes, which reassures both children and parents during off-road rides.

Q: How many gears does the drivetrain on the Scale 600 Scott have?

The Scale 600 Scott is fitted with an 8-speed drivetrain. This configuration allows children to adapt easily to changes in terrain, whether on flat ground, uphill or downhill. Scott points out that the cassette is larger on this model, which specifically makes climbing easier and reduces the effort required for young cyclists. This simple drivetrain, with a limited number of gears, also makes it easier for beginners to get to grips with and understand how to change gears.

Q: Scott: Does the Scale 600 have a suspension fork or a rigid fork?

The Scale 600 Scott is fitted with a rigid fork. This technical choice is in keeping with the bike’s design as a lightweight, versatile model for a child’s first off-road adventures and everyday rides. A rigid fork helps to keep the bike’s total weight down to 10.5 kg. It also provides direct feedback from the terrain, which helps the child gradually learn to control the bike before moving on to more technical models.

Q: What are the wheel dimensions of the Scale 600 Scott?

The Scale 600 Scott is fitted with 26-inch wheels. This wheel size is suitable for children from 135 cm in height, which is the target audience for this model. The wheels are fitted with fast tyres, according to the manufacturer’s technical specifications. This wheel diameter offers a good balance between manoeuvrability and stability, making it suitable for young riders as they progress on a variety of trails.
