Special Gravel - Cyclo-cross 11 speeds
The Shimano Ultegra Di2 RX817 electric road bike rear derailleur has been developed specifically for gravel and cyclo-cross riding. It uses Shadow RD+ technology to ensure cage stability in all riding conditions. Shown here in the single chainring version.

With an integrated chain stabilisation mechanism, the Shimano GRX rear derailleur offers a quieter experience, as well as safer, more precise gear changes on mixed terrain. For rides on smooth surfaces (roads), however, it is possible to deactivate the Shadow system, as the derailleur features an ON/OFF switch for the chain tensioner.
The RD-RX817 DI2 rear derailleur offers digital shifting precision and also benefits from the Shimano Synchro-Shift system (synchronised gear changes).
This derailleur is compatible with road cassettes with a large sprocket of up to 42 teeth.
The Shimano GRX groupset stands out with its Gravel-specific components: Gravel ergonomics, optimised gearshift options, reliability and a silent, stable transmission.
Shimano insists that this is not a reworked version of its road components, but indeed a groupset specially adapted to the constraints of Gravel riding.

No surprise, this Shimano derailleur deserves the know-how of the Japanese manufacturer. I chose it to equip a cyclocross bike with a single chainring and an 11-40 cassette (but it can go up to a 42-tooth sprocket). The clutch mechanism is a plus, you don't hear the chain hitting the base tube when the path becomes uneven. In terms of shifting, it's Di2. So impeccable. The motor is a bit noisier than a road Ultegra Di2. But nothing bothersome. Solid and efficient. (Translated review)
