The RD-R8000model is available in two versions: short cage (SS) and medium cage (GS). The choice depends mainly on the cassette used and the required gear range. The SS version accommodates cassettes up to 11-30 teeth, whilst the GS version can accommodate up to 11-34 teeth.

RD-R8000-SS or RD-R8000-GS: which one to choose?

The SS version with a short cable housing is particularly well-suited to standard road drivetrains and cassettes ranging up to 11–30 teeth. It is an excellent choice for a sporty setup with a relatively tight gear range.

The GS version with a medium cage offers greater capacity and allows the use of a cassette up to 11-34 teeth. It is therefore better suited to bikes fitted with a drivetrain offering a wider range of gear ratios, particularly for hilly or mountainous routes.
