The three models correspond to three profiles of back flexibility and riding position. The Arione (flat profile, 130 mm wide, 300 mm long): for flexible cyclists in an aggressive position who shift their weight more towards the front of the pelvis. The Antares (slightly concave profile, 140 mm): for cyclists with average flexibility who alternate between positions. The Aliante (hollow profile, 143 mm): for less flexible cyclists in an upright position who sit mainly on their sit bones. Each model is available in Regular and Large sizes (approximately 10 mm wider at the rear).

Adaptive is a pad manufactured using 3D printing via Carbon DLS (Digital Light Synthesis) technology, which allows the density to vary in each area of the saddle. Whereas conventional padding is uniform, Adaptive adjusts its stiffness according to the pressure zone: softer under the sit bones, firmer under the nose, with gradual transitions. Fizik claims a 60% reduction in peak pressure compared to standard versions. Currently available on the Antares (Versus Evo Adaptive) and Argo Adaptive ranges. The price remains high (€250–400 depending on the model) but is expected to become more widely available.

The correct width depends on the width of your sit bones (ischial tuberosities). Fizik recommends the Antares Regular (140 mm) if your sit bone width is less than approximately 125–130 mm, and the Antares Large (150 mm) for anything wider. A practical test: sitting normally on a piece of corrugated cardboard (without cycling shorts), measure the distance between the two marks left. If the difference is less than 120–125 mm: Regular. Above that: Large. Please note: a saddle that is too wide causes just as many problems as one that is too narrow (internal chafing of the thighs).

Wingflex is a system that allows the side edges of the shell to flex, found on certain Arione and Antares models. It allows the sides of the saddle to give slightly with each pedal stroke, following the internal movement of the cyclist’s thigh. The aim is to reduce chafing and pressure points on the inner thighs. In practice, the benefit is most noticeable on long rides: less irritation on the thighs and a slightly smoother pedalling sensation.

The Versus Evo version adds a full central channel (from the tip to the crescent) and a slightly more flexible shell. The classic Arione is firm and flat, designed for maximum power transfer. The Versus Evo features a channel running the full length to relieve pressure on the soft tissues, reducing the risk of numbness over long distances. The Versus Evo’s shell is also slightly more flexible, making it more comfortable but slightly less rigid when it comes to power transfer. For long-distance cyclosportives: Versus Evo. For pure competition: classic version.

Yes, Fizik (stylised fi'zi:k) is an Italian brand founded in 1996, based in Rossano Veneto (Veneto). It belongs to the Selle Royal group, which also owns the Fizik, Selle Royal and Velo saddle brands. Fizik has established itself as a benchmark in road and MTB competition saddles, having been present in WorldTour pelotons since its inception. The brand is also known for its cycling shoes (R5, R1, X5 ranges) and handlebar tape.

The codes indicate the range level and the materials used. 00: full carbon shell + carbon rails, the lightest (under 150 g). R1: composite shell (nylon/carbon) + carbon rails, very good weight-to-price ratio. R3: composite shell + K:ium rails (Fizik alloy, 8% lighter than titanium), the most common level. The suffixes Versus Evo (channel + soft shell), Adaptive (3D padding), Open (recess in the middle) and Wingflex (flexible side edges) are added to the base model.

Yes, Fizik offers specific gravel (Terra Argo) and MTB ranges. Terra Argo saddles are designed to absorb vibrations from unpaved trails: thicker, progressive padding and protected sides. The MTB range follows the same principles (Gobi for XC, Mesca for enduro). On recent gravel bikes fitted with carbon seatposts, Fizik saddles with K:ium rails or oval carbon rails (7x9 mm) are recommended to make the most of the seatpost’s flexibility and prevent round rails from slipping.

Fizik uses the Spine Concept system based on the rider’s spinal flexibility. Three profiles: Snake (very flexible = Arione), Chameleon (medium flexibility = Antares), Bull (not very flexible = Aliante). To measure your flexibility: stand with your legs straight and measure the distance between your fingers and the ground. If your hands touch the ground: Snake/Arione. Between 0 and 10 cm: Chameleon/Antares. Over 10 cm: Bull/Aliante. This system is simpler than Selle Italia’s IDMatch (which measures the sit bones) and gives good results in most cases.

Yes, the Argo range is Fizik’s short-nose line, designed for performance road cycling and triathlon. The Vento Argo (short nose, flat profile) is aimed at cyclists in an aggressive position with little pelvic rotation. The Tempo Argo (short nose, softer padding) is suitable for long-distance recreational cyclists. The advantage of the short nose: it eliminates pressure on the nose during intense efforts, reduces discomfort in the soft tissues, and offers greater freedom of movement. Check that your position on the bike is suitable for this design: a short nose combined with an upright position can cause pelvic stability issues.
