Ideal pads for serious cycling, providing effective braking in all conditions.
Rider Elite XC for 5 years
Shimano ’s J04C metal MTB brake pads from Ice Technologies are designed to deliver high braking power, excellent heat resistance and a long service life. Aimed at demanding mountain bikers, they are particularly well-suited to competitive riding and challenging conditions requiring high-performance, consistent braking.
Featuring a sintered metal lining, the Shimano J04C ensure powerful and consistent braking, even when conditions become demanding. Their metallic composition gives them better wear resistance than conventional organic brake pads, particularly during rides in muddy or wet conditions or on rough terrain.
The main advantage of the Shimano J04C brake pads lies in their aluminium cooling fins, integrated into the upper part of the pads.
This design improves the dissipation of heat generated during repeated and prolonged braking. It therefore helps to limit overheating of the braking system and ‘fading’ – that is, the gradual loss of effectiveness when temperatures become too high.
This technology is particularly beneficial for mountain bikers who tackle long descents, heavy braking and technical mountain trails.
The metal composition of the J04C Shimano s offers several advantages:
High braking power, even in challenging conditions.
Excellent wear resistance for an extended service life.
Consistent performance under high thermal stress.
Good performance in wet and muddy conditions.
Suitable for demanding mountain biking and intensive rides.
Thanks to their meticulous design and cooling technology, the Shimano J04C brake pads are an excellent choice for getting the most out of your hydraulic braking system.

Perfect.
Top
Good quality metal pads. Good durability.
Top notch pads mounted on xt disc with 6 holes it brakes top notch
Good value for money
like all original Shimano parts: the quality is there. I only take semi-metallic pads on my gravel and my mountain bike: top braking. a bit noisier these on gravel.
Good quality metal plates. Effective braking in difficult conditions. Quite expensive but good longevity.
Good effective pad that meets my expectations.
Spare pads for both my MTB and our road tandem good longevity and good braking

The J04C models use metal pads, whilst the J05A models have resin pads. The J04C models prioritise durability and heat resistance, whilst the J05A models generally prioritise quiet operation.
Yes, they perform well in wet and muddy conditions. They are particularly suitable for mountain biking in bad weather.
No. You need to check that the disc is compatible with metal brake pads. Some discs Shimano are designed exclusively for resin brake pads.
Metal brake pads can produce more noise than organic brake pads. Poor running-in, contamination or a worn brake disc can also cause vibrations and squeaking.
No, they are designed to remain fitted to the brake caliper. However, you must use the correct brake pad part number for your brake model.
You should check the thickness of the brake pads regularly. Replace the pads when their thickness reaches the wear limit recommended by Shimano or if they are contaminated and do not regain their effectiveness after cleaning.
