Frequently asked questions

Want to find out more?

Yes, Sidi shoes consistently run smaller than your usual size: going up a full size is the universal rule recommended on all product pages on the website. If you wear a size 40 in town, opt for a 41 or 41.5. This advice is mentioned in almost all customer reviews, across all ranges, including the Genius 10, Shot 2, Wire 2S, Sixty and Zero Gore 2. Sidi shoes also have a narrow fit: if you have a wide foot, the Mega range (available on the Ergo 5 in particular) adds an extra 4 mm of width. Half sizes, available on several models, allow for an even finer fit. If in doubt between two sizes, go for the larger one: a shoe that’s too tight compromises comfort and can cause pain on long rides.

The Shot 2S is designed for narrow feet and weighs around 320 g, compared to 330 g for the standard Shot 2. The Shot 2S is narrower at the forefoot, providing better support for narrower feet without compromising performance. Both models share the same ultra-stiff C-Boost SRS carbon sole and the dual Tecno-3 Push fastening system, used at WorldTour level. If you have a normal or slightly wide foot, the Shot 2 will be more suitable. If you’re looking for an ultra-snug fit for competition, the Shot 2S is preferable. In both cases, the rule of going up a size applies in full.

The Sidi Mega range is designed for cyclists with wide or strong feet: it offers an extra 4 mm compared to standard models, mainly across the ball of the foot. The Ergo 5 Mega is the best-known model in this range. If you usually wear a standard size 42 and the shoe is too narrow, the Mega in size 42 or even 41.5 may solve the problem. On the other hand, if your foot is of normal width, the Mega will probably feel too wide and you will lose lateral support. Customers report that some recent models, such as the Sixty, have a naturally slightly wider fit than the classic Ergo 5, which may mean you don’t need to opt for the Mega.

This is one of Sidi’s major strengths: all wear parts are available as spare parts, including buckles, dials, heel pads and cleats. The Tecno-3 comes in several versions depending on the model: Tecno-3 Push (single-button fastening), Tecno-3 Push Flex (Dyneema cable, lighter), Tecno 4 and SLW. Customers report that tightening whilst cycling can be tricky on some models as you have to lift the lever, turn it and lower it again. This is something to bear in mind if you’re used to tightening your shoes whilst riding. The system’s durability, however, is unanimously praised in reviews: several cyclists report more than five seasons of use without any noticeable wear and tear.

Yes, the Sidi Shot 2 shoes, like the vast majority of Sidi road models, are compatible with all 3-bolt cleat systems: Look KEO, Shimano SPD-SL and Campagnolo. The standard 3-hole pattern is universal for road shoes. The C-Boost SRS carbon sole features carefully positioned cleat inserts, but the range of longitudinal and lateral adjustment remains limited according to several customer reviews: you may need to try a few different settings to find the right fit, particularly if you are used to positioning your cleats well back. Sidi MTB shoes, on the other hand, use the 2-bolt SPD system.

For winter, the Sidi model of choice is the Zero Gore 2, fitted with a waterproof Gore-Tex membrane designed for temperatures between -5°C and +5°C. Its Millenium 5 nylon-carbon sole provides the rigidity needed for power transfer, and the neoprene protection around the ankle enhances waterproofing. Customers wearing the Zero Gore 2 report never having felt cold, even in extreme weather, provided temperatures do not fall below the specified limits. The rule of going up a size is even more important with this model, particularly if you wear thick socks. For cool but not freezing conditions, standard road models worn with overshoes may suffice.

Sidi offers a clear gradation of sole stiffness, from Composite 20 (entry-level) to Carbon C-Boost SRS (top-of-the-range competition). The Composite 20, found on the Genius 10, is a carbon-nylon blend that offers an excellent balance of stiffness and comfort for cyclosportives. The Carbon SRS found on the Shot 2 or Wire 2S is reserved for competitors seeking maximum power transfer. The Millenium 5, exclusive to winter models such as the Zero Gore 2, incorporates insulating properties. For regular cyclosportive riding, the Composite 20 is often sufficient and more comfortable over long distances. Switch to full carbon only if you are looking to maximise performance in competition.

Yes, the fit of the Sidi Sixty is similar to that of the Ergo 5: if you wear a size 40 in the Ergo 5, stick with the same size for the Sixty. This feedback is confirmed directly by Matériel Vélo’s customer service and by reviews from customers who have made the switch. However, the Sixty features a stiffer carbon sole than the mid-range Ergo 5, which may come as a surprise on your first few rides. Its design celebrates the brand’s 60th anniversary and draws on traditional Italian styling. The fastening system is provided by the Tecno 4. This model is particularly popular with regular Sidi users who want to stick to their usual shoe size without the risk of disappointment.

Sidi MTB shoes such as the Speed 2 are designed for SPD clipless pedals (2-bolt), but some models also accept cleats for mixed use on flat pedals. The MTB Competition Sole features cleats that allow you to walk on uneven terrain. For use exclusively on flat pedals or for non-technical leisure mountain biking, dedicated shoes with a flexible sole will be more suitable. The Speed 2 is recommended for cross-country mountain biking or mountain hiking. Here too, the basic rule applies: choose a size larger than your usual size.

Sidi offers a few models suitable for gravel riding, notably the Dust, which can be used for light road riding and on trails. These models combine the comfortable Mega sole with a more contoured sole block for walking on varied terrain. Compatibility is guaranteed with 2-bolt SPD systems. However, Sidi’s gravel range remains less extensive than that of brands such as Giro or Shimano in this segment. For intensive gravel riding or bikepacking, it is preferable to opt for models specifically designed for this discipline. For occasional mixed use, the Dust offers an excellent balance between performance and practicality off the bike.
