With the Comète Ultimate, Mavic claims it is quite simply the fastest road helmet in its range, designed in a wind tunnel and refined using computer simulation to the point where it outperforms the best models worn on the World Tour. Its benefits are not limited to the aerodynamic position: the gain remains significant even in an upright position – the one riders adopt for most of a ride – with an average saving of nearly 9 watts. Over a 50 km route, this advantage can translate into a 11-second gain over the best competitors on the market.

This efficiency is largely down to the AeroFlow disruptors, a signature technical feature that accelerates the airflow precisely where it would otherwise tend to stall off the helmet. But Mavic hasn’t sacrificed comfort for the sake of speed: the internal ventilation system channels air from large front intakes to dedicated rear outlets, whilst the MIPS padding incorporates moisture-management technology to minimise overheating during long rides.

The helmet’s fit is ensured by a new rear adjustment system that locks the position in place even at high speeds, combined with the latest-generation MIPS protection capable of absorbing rotational impacts in the event of a fall. The slim, adjustable straps never interfere with the fit of glasses, whether prescription or sunglasses.
