Pedals for exceptional performance
Road specialist
Shimano ’s Dura-Ace PD-R9300 road bike pedals introduce the new SPD-SLR system, developed to strengthen the connection between the cyclist and the bike. Their ultra-wide platform ensures excellent foot support, whilst the ultra-low stack height brings the shoe closer to the pedal axle to improve stability, control and power transfer. The integrated stainless steel contact plate also enhances the rigidity of the interface and the quality of the engagement.
Designed for cyclists seeking top-level performance, the PD-R9300 features an injection-moulded carbon composite body and an axle fitted with wide bearings to distribute loads more effectively. Their rotational resistance is reduced by 53 per cent compared to the PD-R8200, whilst stiffness has increased by 11 per cent.
These pedals ensure faster engagement. The SPD-SLR system offers a wider engagement zone and a narrower engagement angle (10.5°), compared to 15.5° for the SPD-SL, allowing cyclists to clip in more naturally and with confidence.
They come with the new SPD-SLR CL-SL110 cleats, which offer 3° of rotation to maintain a good balance between freedom of movement, stability and pedalling efficiency.

SPD-SLR is the new road pedal system from Shimano. It is gradually replacing the classic SPD-SL by offering a completely redesigned interface between the shoe, cleat and pedal. The aim is to bring the foot closer to the pedal axle, improving power transfer, stability and the feeling of connection with the bike.
These are the most advanced road pedals from Shimano. They introduce the SPD-SLR system and are designed for professional riders and discerning cyclists seeking maximum performance.
Key features:
- Ultra-wide platform for exceptional stability.
- Ultra-low ‘stack height’ (2.3 mm lower than the previous generation SPD-SL).
- No gap between the pedal and the cleat → better power transfer and greater control.
- Integrated stainless steel contact plate (better engagement + increased stiffness).
- Injection-moulded carbon composite body.
- Axle stiffness increased by +11 per cent compared to the PD-R8200.
- Rotational resistance reduced by 53 per cent thanks to a heat-treated axle and optimised bearing surfaces.
Injection-moulded carbon composite body.
Extra-wide platform for optimal foot support.
Integrated stainless steel contact plate that improves engagement, interface stiffness and durability.
By moving your foot closer to the pedal spindle, you get:
- A more stable riding position.
- A more direct transfer of power.
- Better control of the bike (sprints, climbs, threshold efforts).
The PD-R9300 pedals are compatible only with the new SPD-SLR cleats.
Supplied with the pedals, the CL-SL110 (yellow) cleats are the most versatile in the range: 3° of angular freedom (or ±3°, totalling 6°). Enhanced comfort and reduced joint strain. Ideal for the widest range of cyclists. Lighter (up to 22 per cent lighter than the previous SPD-SL cleats)
The other SPD-SLR cleat options are:
- CL-SL100 (red): 0° (fixed position) for maximum power transfer.
- CL-SL120 (blue): 1° of freedom.
- CL-SL130 (grey): a transitional version offering more adjustment options, but without the benefits of reduced stack height or weight savings.
Yes. The clip-in angle has been reduced to 10.5° (down from 15.5° previously) and the engagement zone has been widened. Clip-in is more natural and secure, whether you’re setting off, coming out of a bend or sprinting.
No. SPD-SLR cleats are not backwards compatible with older SPD-SL pedals, and vice versa. You must use SPD-SLR cleats with PD-R9300 pedals.
Yes, to get the most out of the system (lowest stack height + greater stiffness + optimal feel), Shimano recommends pairing the PD-R9300 pedals with CL-SL110 cleats (or other SPD-SLR cleats) and the new S-PHYRE shoes designed for SPD-SLR.
SPD-SLR cleats remain compatible with most existing 3-hole road shoes, however (although the full benefits are only realised with the complete ecosystem).
Axle stiffness: +11 per cent.
Rotational resistance: -53 per cent.
Stack height: -2.3 mm.
Weight of cleats: up to -22 per cent.
Clip-in angle: 10.5° (instead of 15.5°).
Yes. A version with a 4 mm longer axle is available at the same price. These are suitable for cyclists who need a wider Q-factor.
The extra 4 mm offset is particularly useful for cyclists looking for a foot position suited to their body shape and set-up, especially those with a wide pelvis.
These are designed for professional riders and cyclists seeking optimum stability, direct power transfer and maximum efficiency.
Although they are optimised for top-level performance, they are perfectly suited to discerning cyclists seeking the best power transfer and a smooth pedalling feel, whether in competition or during intensive training.
