Our opinion : A component from the new 12-speed generation, the Shimano BR-R7170 rear hydraulic disc brake caliper is a model that benefits from the technological advances of Dura-Ace but at a significantly more affordable price.

Shimano offers the new 105 BR-R7170 caliper, compatible with Flat Mount frames. There are numerous improvements, but the key point to note is the gain in compactness and weight compared to the previous 11-speed generation.

The Shimano R7170 rear brake caliper offers improved clearance for the brake pads, which makes it easier to remove and fit the wheel, provides quieter braking performance, and features significantly easier one-way bleeding for quick and clean maintenance.

The 12-speed generation calipers are also compatible with 11-speed groupsets. It is entirely possible to fit this caliper with an 11-speed 105, Ultegra or Dura-Ace lever to improve braking performance at a lower cost.
