The Shimano Y8J7090900 spacer is a transport spacer for hydraulic MTB disc brakes, designed for Shimano calipers such as the BR-M985 (XTR). It is inserted between the brake pads when the wheel is removed to temporarily replace the disc and protect the hydraulic system.

Its main purpose is to prevent the pistons from accidentally retracting when the brake lever is operated without a rotor. This helps maintain the pad clearance and prevents the brake from seizing up or becoming misaligned during transport or maintenance of the bike.
