An original replacement part Shimano

Handlebar grips, also known as grips or grip covers, are in direct contact with the cyclist’s hands. Their condition therefore has a significant impact on comfort and grip quality.

Over time, the rubber may lose its original appearance, become less grippy, crack or show signs of wear. Replacing the lever covers therefore gives the levers a new lease of life without having to replace the entire control unit.

Part number Y0E698010 corresponds to part number 5 on the official exploded view diagram for the Shimano ST-R8070 lever and is specified as a set of Bracket Covers (Pair).

Shimano Ultegra ST-R8070 compatibility

These hand rests are specifically designed for the following groupsets:

Shimano Ultegra Di2 ST-R8070 – 2x11-speed – hydraulic disc brakes.

This part is therefore intended for the Ultegra R8000 Di2 11-speed generation, and not for the new Ultegra Di2 12-speed shifters.

Before placing an order, you must check the part number marked on your lever. The official ‘ Shimano ’ compatibility applies to the ST-R8070 model.

A better grip

Handlebar grips in good condition are essential for maintaining a secure and comfortable grip on your bike.

Shimano ’s shift lever grips provide a surface that allows you to keep a firm grip on the controls, whether in the high position, when accelerating or during long rides.

Replacing old handlebar grips also helps to restore a cleaner, more uniform look to a bike whose mechanical or electronic components are still in perfect working order.

Why replace your handlebar grips?

There are several signs that may indicate replacement is necessary:

• cracked rubber;
• a surface that has become shiny and smooth;
• loss of grip;
• deformed rubber;
• significant signs of wear;
• tears following a fall;
• cosmetic ageing;
• less comfortable feel on the hands.

In these situations, there is no need to replace the entire lever: the ‘ Shimano ’ Y0E698010 lever caps allow you to replace only the affected outer section.

Fitting the hand rests Shimano

Replacing the hand rests usually involves removing the old lever cover and then positioning the new one correctly on the control.

It is recommended that you proceed with care so as not to damage the rubber during fitting.

Installation does not require the Di2 electronic system itself to be replaced or modified. The hand rest is an external part of the lever.

To ensure a perfect finish, check that the rubber is correctly positioned around the lever body and that the various contact areas are properly in place.

Left and right pair

Part number Y0E698010 is sold as a pair, comprising the left and right hand rests.

This is a useful feature when you wish to achieve a perfectly uniform appearance on both sides of the handlebar.

Shimano ’s documentation explicitly identifies this part number as ‘Bracket Covers (Pair)’.

Expert tip: if your grips are simply starting to become shiny or less grippy, don’t wait until they’re completely cracked. Replacing them as a preventative measure helps maintain a good grip and avoids riding with severely worn rubber.
